About Me

My First Ever Tag – The Geeky Childhood Tag

good times

I’ve never actually gotten to answering any of the award tags I’ve received before (my apologies). This is my first! Since I haven’t really written much about myself before, I guess I’m long due for one of these.

Now, let’s clear up some things first.

This tag originated from Michelle at A Geek Girl’s Guide, but I personally discovered this through Voyager’s nomination. So thanks again for the nomination, Voyager!

The rules? There are none. Now that’s new eh?

So without further ado, let’s get straight into my interestingly uninteresting geeky(?) childhood!

Responses

Where did your geek come from? Parents? Siblings? Destiny?

size not to scale (in case my mum reads this)

My mum is kinda dorky and I definitely adopted most of her quirks. At the same time, I sorta outgrew what my mum passed on to me and became my own geek. I’m definitely miles ahead of her in this regard now.

The First Geeky Thing You Got Into

for when I defeat you, you shall never duel again!

I used to collect a deck of “Duel Masters” cards and spent my young’un days frivolously battling it out with the other kids. We all wanted to be the baddest duel master on the block. Winning would mean I could take home one of their cards, while losing would mean I had to give up one of my own. Surprise surprise, I ended up having quite a stack. Now if only I could find where I stored that stack of cards…

Favorite TV Show as a Kid

super robot monkey team hyperforce GO!

Without a doubt, Pokemon was all the rage back then. I myself spent countless hours watching the show, and even had a stack of CD copies of the series. But since Pokemon is kind of an obvious answer, I do remember having a ton of fun watching a certain Toon Disney animated series called Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce GO! I think it was then that I started procrastinating on my homework. It was such a fun and unique experience and I can still remember how exciting and memorable the characters were.

Favorite Movie as a Kid

what a wonderful story

Pinocchio wins this one. That 1940 Disney film was all sorts of great. There’s just something magical about the movie, and I absolutely loved watching it.

Favorite Video Game as a Kid

Pokemon of course! That game was simply too legendary back then. But again, for the sake of diversity, my second most favourite video game had to be DJ Max Portable 2 on the PlayStation Portable (PSP). I stumbled upon music games by chance, but have been hooked ever since. Even today, I still find myself reminiscing about the game. Fortunately, that game exists on the PlayStation console, so I get to indulge in it whenever I want!

Favorite Book as a Kid

Books eh? Hmm, interesting. I think when it comes to books, I only started reading during my early teenage years. I mostly dabbled in the crime/mystery genre, with the most memorable off the top of my head being “The Associate” by John Grisham. There’s just something fascinating about the underpinnings of crime and its many mysteries. He was definitely one of my go-to authors when I looked for books. I’m pretty sure I had another favourite author, but I can’t for the life of me remember his name!

Favorite Memory as a Kid

what it felt like back then

Playing soccer at any time and any place whenever I find the chance to. Soccer had been so fun that even when there weren’t any balls to use, we ended up using bottles or bottle caps and would still have a blast.

A Character You Looked Up To as a Kid

yeah, you tell them!

Looking up to a character means a lot more than simply choosing one you like, and so unfortunately I don’t think I’ve ever looked up to any as a kid. But since I’m asked this question anyways, I’ll give it to my man Jiminy Cricket. That wise little cricket served as Pinocchio’s conscience in the film, and was quite admirable.

A Character That Scared You as a Kid

if you see him in your dreams, its time to wake up

One, two, Freddy’s coming for you
Three, four, better lock your door
Five, six, grab your crucifix
Seven, eight, gonna stay up late
Nine, ten, never sleep again

I’ll have to give this one to Freddy Krueger. This creep could even terrorise children in their dreams! Back then for me, going to sleep after watching his movies had been near impossible. He was simply too scary!

A Movie That Scared You as a Kid (extra question)

this film was truly terrifying to watch as a kid

The previous question inspired me to talk about a movie that terrorised me as a kid, so I added this question. Back then, there was a film that could thoroughly instill fear in me, and that was the Evil Dead movie series. That movie still gives me the creeps just thinking about it, and I don’t think there’ll ever come a day where I decide to re-watch it as an adult. I want nothing to do with this show, ever again.

Nominations

I don’t want any nominees to feel obligated at all to respond to this. It’s just for fun, and I do know how often these go around. That being said, it would be quite interesting to read the answers that anyone of you might have! So here are my nominees:

  1. Inskidee
  2. Lumi
  3. Al
  4. Scott
  5. AnnieMe
  6. The Overage Otaku
  7. The Otaku Judge

  1. I can blame my uncle for becoming a geek. He is a big fan of comics, sci-fi and movies. Back in the day he would also rent out VHS tapes for me to watch that included stuff like Mazinger Z.
