Put a Tune to It – Anime If They Were Songs

So a while back, I’ve been tagged by the amazing Crow for this rather interesting tag. As usual, I procrastinated, and eventually Voyager tagged me as well! So I figured it’s about time I got to it. Thanks again for the nominations guys! If for some reason you haven’t already checked these guys out, you should stop whatever you’re doing and go check them out first!

This tag has recently been going around, and it’s called Put a Tune to It. The tag involves both music AND anime, and I’m totally all for that! Personally I listen to an even balance of Japanese music, Korean music and Western music among many others, so it’s a bummer that I can only include Western music. Why? Because of the rules. But as much as I hate rules, rules are rules.

The Rules:

  • Choose any number of western songs (any genre) that you think best sums up an anime or manga of any type or genre.
    • If you want to pick more than 1 from each section that’s fine. Or if you can’t think of one for a specific category that’s fine also.
  • Explain why you think your choices could work. Is it the lyrics? The tune and the beat? Or just the music video?
  • Link back to the original post so I can read people’s suggestions, I’d love to read everyone’s ideas.
  • Include Put a Tune to It in your tags so everyone including myself can find them all easily.
  • Nominate around 1-5 bloggers.

Alright, here goes!

Your Lie In April:
♪ Goodbye My Lover ♪

James Blunt — Goodbye My Lover

Pianos? Check. Romantic? Check. GOODBYES? Spoiler! This song definitely doesn’t fit the whole classical vibe that surrounds Your Lie In April, but it most definitely contains similar emotional sentiments with its tune and lyrics.

Yanderes Be Like:
♪ Mad Hatter ♪

Melanie Martinez — Mad Hatter

Yanderes are crazy, and they know they are. This song captures that craziness, then uses it to explain why despite them being psychotic, they’re still the perfect waifu material.

Cyberpunk Anime:
♪ Bring Me To Life ♪

Evanescence — Bring Me To Life

Evanescence is the type of artist that can pull of the dark edgy themes. This one’s purely for its vibes and its music. It feels as if it can perfectly represent the cool yet dark places and societies we see in Cyberpunk anime.

Before The Protagonist Fights The Final Villain:
♪ New Divide ♪

Linkin Park — New Divide

I mean come on, this song is like a rising current. It rises and rises and rises until it peaks, and that’s exactly the type of song that can portray the build up before a character’s final battle with the antagonist. It’s hype.

Fantasy Anime Where A Character Gets Isekai-ed:
♪ Fireflies ♪

Owl City — Fireflies

The first few moments of this song perfectly captures the fantasy vibes of a new world. A world filled with… fireflies?

Hype Moments In Sports Anime:
♪ What I’ve Done ♪

Linkin Park — What I’ve Done

Song lyrics and intention aside, this is another great exciting song. This would be perfect for sports anime, especially during the moments when the character finally shows the fruits of the labour from that training arc.

Every Ecchi Anime Character Before Going Full Hentai:
♪ Funky Town ♪

Lipps Inc — Funkytown

For characters that aren’t afraid to get funky.

If KonoSuba Had A Western Theme Song:
♪ Stayin’ Alive ♪

Bee Gees — Stayin’ Alive

This song is about how tough it is to simply stay alive, and while the lyrics can be quite heavy, the song is upbeat and comical. Perfect to describe the silly cast of KonoSuba and their efforts to stay alive. Just imagine it.

Shonen Protagonists after an Epic Win:
♪ U Can’t Touch This ♪

MC Hammer — U Can’t Touch This

Come on now, we all know that despite their humble demeanour even after epic victories, they all have this side to them.

Okay that was tough. Western songs are nice and all, but it’s pretty clear that anime give off a different vibe from that of the Western songs.

Despite that, I realised how special this tag had been. It gave me a reason and the opportunity to relive certain songs I’ve heard in the past, and allowed me to fool around with them! It was a nostalgic, emotional, fun and satisfying experience.

With that said, I picked a few people who I thought might have interesting answers of their own, should they choose to do the tag.

Okay, so I broke the rules a little. As always, if you’re nominated, don’t feel obligated to take on this tag! It’s just for fun, and I thought you might like doing this specific tag.

Thanks for reading!

  1. oh thank you! I think Staying Alive Is a great choice for Konosuba haha. This is gonna be rough figuring I barely listen to Western music except for a few Elvis Presley here and there lol.

    1. I had a tough time too! I had to suppress my urge to add Korean and Japanese songs that fit some genres so well.

You know, it would be totally awesome if you altered this tag to create your own rendition of it that perhaps, allows for different music as well! You should totally do it!

    1. It really is so much fun! Yeah, it hit me hard when I first compared the lyrics of that song to your lie in april. Awesome, you’re nominated! I can’t wait to see your creative version of this 😀
